ww2 sites in austria

Postby doctor jeep » Thu Jun 26, 2003 8:06 am

heya. later in the year i'll be going to austria (again). Its pretty dull there, and the fascination of walking into shops and looking at things is sort of wearing off, especially as the town I stay in in styria hasn't all that much there.

so, does anyone know of any ww2 heritage sites and stuff in austria? partcularly in styria (steiermark) and around vienna? I cant think of any battlefields, I guess there must be one or two.

there are 6 flak towers in vienna (interestingly these appear on no tourist guides!), and I know there is mauthausen memorial near linz (thats a bit too far away and sure to be depressing).

Hmm, you could allways try saying "Sieg Hail" to a policeofficer or military personel. :o

Why don't you visit that "famous" nazi town, if it's still intact of course? Or have you been there allready?

I got the impression it's near the Eagle's Nest(http://www.salisburgo.at/en/sights/kehlstein.shtml). Heh, I ride with BoB knowledge. :D

Anyways, have you checked out Eagle's Nest? That place must be more than impressive...

EDIT: And I also read somewhere that you'll find atleast a few "battefields" near(well uhum, 100km's anywhere from EN :p) the Eagle's Nest.
